PureFlow PEX pipe and fittings from Viega are approved for use in exposed fire sprinkler systems in basements. Being listed by Underwriter Laboratories allows contractors to use PureFlow throughout a residential fire sprinkler system. This eliminates the need to use a different material in the basement when PureFlow PEX is used throughout a house.
Viega PureFlow can be used in two types of ceilings based on certain conditions. In order for PureFlow PEX pipes and fittings to be used in wood joist ceiling assemblies, joists must be of dimensional lumber, engineered wood, wood I-joist or open web wood joists. In addition, joists need to be of depths from 6 to 16 inches and spacing from 12 to 24 inches on center. Furthermore, metal pipe hangers that are spaced at maximum 24 inches on center must be used. The automatic sprinklers must have a maximum activation temperature rating of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
Viega PureFlow can be installed and left exposed across finished ceiling assemblies if the ceiling is finished with one of the three approved membranes: minimum 3/8-inch thickness code-complying gypsum wallboard, suspended membrane ceiling with lay-in panels or tiles having a minimum weight of 0.35 pounds/feet2 when installed with metallic support grids, or ½-inch code-complying plywood or solid sheathing. Metal pipe spaced at a maximum 24 inches on center must also be used. The automatic sprinklers must have a maximum activation temperature rating of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
PureFlow is the PEX fire sprinkler of choice because of its ease of installation, corrosion-free qualities and dependability. It’s the only PEX fire sprinkler system with an easy alignment bracket, eliminating the need for measuring when hanging pendants.
